So long, swipe-up link. Instagram rolled out a new link sticker to replace the infamous swipe-up link and everyone was scrambling for a moment. But wait – isn’t this a good thing?!
One of the biggest down-sides to the swipe-up was lack of creator connection. When a creator included a swipe-up link, which had become second nature to usage of the platform, the ability to reply or react to that same story slide wasn’t possible. Now, a creator will likely see increased engagement and feedback surrounding the items they are linking or where they’re sending their followers to, resulting in a more seamless user interaction process.
Additionally, the link sticker gives a creator more creative control – placement, size, and style can all be toggled by the creator to ensure a customized experience.
But wait, there’s more. Remember how the swipe-up link was only available to users with over 10k followers? This could be changing – according to Vishal Shah, Instagram’s Head of Product, this rollout could include linking capability for all users. Vishal told The Verge that they’ll be monitoring this potential new inclusion to ensure the links aren’t being used to spread misinformation or spam.
So, what are your thoughts? Do you mind the transition from swiping to simply tapping on a link? And – what about all users receiving linking capabilities?
