Insights from Megan Pylman: Building Strong Relationships and Navigating Creator Partnerships

What specific skills or qualities do you believe are often overlooked but are essential for succeeding in a creator management role?

Being assertive, being organize, being able to multitask, not getting overwhelmed too easily

What made you join the creator industry? Did you always know you wanted to be in it?

I spent 2 years on the brand side working with creators but didn’t feel as fulfilled as I hoped.

I always knew my passion was working closely with creators and helping them level up, so I made the switch to the agency side four months ago — and I’ve never looked back!

What key lessons have you learned from creators you work with?

People don’t realize just how busy creators truly are.

I’ve learned to be patient and to appreciate that everyone has their own way of working — yet we’re all striving for the same goal!

What advice would you give to someone entering the creator industry today who wants to stand out and build a successful career?

I’d tell anyone entering the creator space to stay open-minded and give it their all.

It’s a fast-paced industry where adaptability is key, and things change quickly — so don’t let it overwhelm you.

But also, be kind to yourself in those first few months as you find your rhythm!

How has TSS changed your perspective on influencer marketing?

TSS has completely shifted my perspective on influencer marketing.

Everyone here genuinely wants to be part of this space and brings such a positive energy to their role and the industry as a whole.

It’s a place that makes it easy to appreciate the little things that others in the industry often overlook.

What’s the most misunderstood aspect of creator management, and how do you address it in your role at TSS?

The biggest misconception about my job is that it’s easy.

People don’t realize how much work goes into securing brand campaigns for creators — building strong brand relationships, ensuring content is delivered on time, redlining and finalizing contracts, and making sure creators get paid promptly.

There’s a lot more happening behind the scenes than most people think!

TSS has amazing teams and departments that help move things forward, but at the end of the day, we’re a one-person team, making sure both we and our creators have everything in place and running smoothly.

What made you choose to work at TSS, and what is your favorite part of your job?

I chose TSS because of the people! Everyone here is truly passionate about what they do and supports each other in a way I’ve never experienced anywhere else!

What is a unique skill you bring to your role?

My ability to connect with people on a personal level.

Describe an ‘a-ha’ moment that has shaped your career.

An ‘a-ha’ moment that shaped my career was working with someone at a past job who truly believed in me and recognized my potential — long before I saw it in myself! & that flexibility is key in influencer marketing!

What productivity hack do you rely on during busy campaigns?

A productivity hack I swear by is writing everything down, step by step, on paper — it helps me stay organized and ensures nothing slips through the cracks

How would you describe the TSS culture to someone considering joining?

TSS culture is encouraging, genuine, celebrates your achievements, and inspires you to improve at your job every day!

Aside from “influencer marketing is easy”, what is the biggest misconception about influencer marketing?

Other than influencer marketing being “easy”, the misconception about influencer marketing is that all a creator has to do is “post about a product”.

There is SO much that goes on behind the scenes for one piece of content to go live.

Aside from “letting creators have more creative freedom”, what advice would you give brands entering creator partnerships?

Pay attention to the creators you’re collaborating with. They understand their audience better than anyone and know what content will perform best on their platforms.

What do you prioritize when picking creators for your roster?

Their authenticity and if the content keeps drawing you back for more.

What is your favorite TSS Team moment?

I LOVE our team bi-weekly calls to go over everyones wins for the month.

How has TSS supported your personal or professional growth?

Personally: TSS has given me confidence in my career.

Professionally: TSS has taught me so much about the industry and the importance of creating long lasting relationships with EVERYONE you talk to.

What is your favorite TSS tradition… or any ideas for a new one 😉

We recently completed color assessments for the entire company, and it was a lot of fun discovering everyone’s color and how it influences their working styles.

If you could switch roles with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?

Sara Williams — I feel like she has the craziest workload and always has a smile on her face.

What is your secret sauce as a creator manager? What makes you unique as a manager?

The relationships I make with my creators.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing campaigns come to life and realizing I was behind it supporting my creator.

What is your fav mid-day bev to get you through a long work day?

A Poppi — all flavors, or BetterDaysCo Caffeinated Greens — Passion Orange is the best!!!
