What skills are essential for thriving in the creator economy today?
Creativity, Adaptability and Organization
What made you join the creator industry? Did you always know you wanted to be in it?
I’ve always been interested in the world of social media and marketing — especially what motivates people to interact with content and creators.
As an avid social media user, I started noticing things that worked and I think I fell in love with the psychology and strategy behind campaigns.
What key lessons have you learned from creators you work with?
Always be ready for anything that may come up.
It’s a very unpredictable job and you are constantly having to come up with creative solutions to problems.
Make sure you stay organized and on top of things but also focus on networking.
Building relationships with brand managers and nourishing them will help you greatly along the way.
What is one piece of advice for someone entering the creator economy?
Make sure you understand the social media landscape and trends. It’s constantly changing and developing, so you need to stay up to date on how to properly communicate to better guide your talent in the right direction.
And also don’t be afraid to let an opportunity pass if it’s not the right one. You can always find new campaign opportunities but can’t undo a partnership that you know is not a good fit.
How has TSS changed your perspective on influencer marketing?
Having worked for so long on the brands’ side, it’s been really interesting to see the process from the talent’s point of view.
It’s also been wonderful to see how far people have gotten at TSS. Their journeys are very inspiring!
Describe your journey at TSS in one word and explain why.
I’ve only been here for a short time, but it’s opened my eyes in a lot of ways. It’s been a pleasure to learn from such amazing professionals and grow alongside great team members.
TSS is a big family and everyone supports each other. I can definitely see how much I can grow here.
What made you choose to work at TSS, and what is your favorite part of your job?
The values.
There’s great respect for everyone’s personal time and space, but there’s also a lot of emphasis on creating a healthy working culture.
It’s hard not to get lost in the job in this industry, but I’ve never felt better in all the jobs I’ve had.
What is a unique skill you bring to your role?
Creativity: I think I’m a very creative problem solver.
What productivity hack do you rely on during busy campaigns?
I love time blocking to make sure I get everything done in my day.
I know I’m usually more productive in the mornings so I try to schedule myself to do the heavier tasks at that time or even the ones I know I’d like to avoid doing — it’s a way to make sure you get it done while also staying productive based on how you usually work best.
How would you describe the TSS culture to someone considering joining?
It’s a big family!
Everyone is absolutely willing to help you out and teach you. The team is incredibly supportive. TSS is the place where you come to grow as you’ll have the room, support, and opportunities to do so.
What is the biggest misconception about influencer marketing?
People think influencers will promote anything and everything. And, that it’s just filming a quick video talking about the product.
I don’t think people know about all the work that goes behind putting together the perfect partnership. When it’s well done, it shouldn’t even feel like an ad.
What advice would you give brands entering creator partnerships?
Do your homework and make sure you find the right creators, communicating to the right audiences.
It’s easy to find someone who will talk about your product, but your goal is to make it as genuine as possible. You want your creators to communicate honestly and effectively with their audience to get the best results.
What do you prioritize when picking creators for your roster?
Quality of content, growth potential, and work ethic.
Describe the TSS team in three words!
The. Best. Team!
If you could switch roles with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
Jenna — I’d love to see how crazy her inbox gets in a day!
What is your secret sauce as a creator manager? What makes you unique as a manager?
Know your creators well!
The job is to be the first line of defense in any way. If you know them and are able to take good care of them, they’ll value the relationship more which will create greater commitment to your projects.
Make sure you nurture those relationships!
What is the most common misconception about your job?
It’s just sending emails!
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
When a campaign is successful! I love reading comments from people saying how good they think a partnership is.
Where is your preferred place to work? Desk, Couch, Bed, Coffee Shop?
Coffee shop! I pretty much have my own table at my local cafe.
What is your fav mid-day bev to get you through a long work day?
Vanilla latte, all day long.
