Dive Into Nijel B Murray’s Creator Journey: Fashion, Hustle & Building Community
How did you get started with social media? Was it a goal of yours or on a whim, and which platform?
I started on social media because of my love for fashion. I enjoyed curating outfits and sharing them with a small following, hoping to connect with others who shared my style and interests.
As my posts began to gain traction, I realized I wanted to build a larger online community to inspire more people and exchange ideas around fashion, style, and creativity.
So, it went from being a casual interest to a purposeful goal: to connect, inspire, and grow with others who shared my passion.
What were you doing (or where were you in life) before you started on social media?
Before I started on social media, I was deep in the sneaker reselling game. I was that kid with 30+ pairs of the latest Yeezys, often before they even hit the shelves.
I’d put in hours tracking down rare drops, lining up at stores, and connecting with people in the sneaker community.
Reselling was my hustle, and it taught me a lot about branding, networking, and the power of exclusivity — lessons I later carried over to building my social media presence.
Was there a specific piece of content or instance in which you went viral or was it a slower build up over time? How did you feel and what did you do afterwards?
I had one video to perform well, and shortly after all of my following videos began to catch heat and my community built up fast in a relatively short amount of time.
At what point did you decide to go “all-in” on social media? What were the factors that made you decide to pursue content creation full-time? Did you have a back-up plan?
There was one video that really took off, and from there, things shifted quickly. After that initial boost, my next few posts started gaining a lot of attention too, and my community grew fast in a short period.
I was both excited and a bit overwhelmed, but it felt like validation for the work I’d been putting in.
Right after, I focused on keeping up the momentum, staying consistent, and engaging with the new audience that had found me. It pushed me to refine my content and set even bigger goals for growth.
If you could go back to when you started your journey as a creator and give yourself two pieces of advice, things to keep in mind, or things you’ve learned — what would you say to yourself?
If I could go back, I’d first tell myself to stay consistent.
Progress can be slow, and just because you don’t see immediate results doesn’t mean you’re not growing. Every post, every tweak, every lesson adds up over time.
Second, I’d say to focus on building genuine connections.
Numbers come and go, but creating a real, supportive community is what makes the journey rewarding and keeps people around for the long haul.
How did you hear about or get connected with The Sociable Society? In what ways have TSS helped you pursue your goals and aspirations?
Honestly, joining The Sociable Society has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Before TSS, I really undervalued myself as a creator, but they helped me see my worth and understand the impact I could make.
Having such a supportive team and an incredible manager like Kiki, who truly has my best interests in mind, has been invaluable.
TSS has empowered me to set higher goals, giving me the confidence and resources to go after them with everything I’ve got.
What’s one prediction you have for social media and being a creator in 2025?
I predict that by 2025, we’ll see a major shift toward long-form content like YouTube videos and podcasts.
As audiences crave deeper, more meaningful connections, creators will move beyond quick, bite-sized clips to offer more in-depth content that showcases their expertise, personality, and storytelling.
This change could redefine what it means to be a creator, with more emphasis on quality and engagement over sheer volume or trends.
Any special shoutouts, mentions, thank you’s or anything else you’d want to share?
Big shoutout to Kiki for everything she does. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does, and it shows in every little detail.
I couldn’t ask for a better manager — she’s the best! Can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store!
